Client Context

Blossom – The Fusion Spot is a mobile food truck operating in Mumbai, serving fusion cuisine through evening and late-night street service. The truck operates on a regular daily schedule, typically running from early afternoon through late evening — a 10 to 12 hour window demanding reliable, continuous power for food preparation equipment, refrigeration, and customer-facing ambience lighting.

As a street-deployed operation, the truck parks at fixed locations without access to grid power, making on-board generation the only option. The deployment has been live for two months with no interruption.

The Challenge

Noise and fumes at the point of service

A 10 KVA diesel generator ran for 10–12 hours daily, positioned close to the service counter. Engine noise fatigued kitchen and serving staff, and diesel exhaust fumes drifted directly into the customer service area — a significant hygiene and experience concern for a food business.

DG unreliability caused direct revenue loss

Mechanical breakdowns meant unplanned service shutdowns with no backup option.

Lead-acid UPS was impractical in the field

A 1 KVA lead-acid UPS provided limited backup time and was too heavy for daily transport. Staff had to carry it back to charge and return it the next day.

High daily fuel cost

At approximately 2 litres per hour over an 11-hour average run, fuel procurement was a daily operational cost and logistical dependency.

Induction cookware was power-prohibitive

Peak power demand from induction hot plates was unmanageable on the available setup, forcing the kitchen to switch to gas burners.

The SmartBatt Solution

A single SmartBatt Ezee unit — rated at 3.6 kW / 3.6 kWh — replaced the entire diesel generator and lead-acid UPS combination for the food truck's daily operations.

Designed for Daily Mobility — The Ezee unit weighs 45 kg and is fitted with wheels and a telescopic handle, making it as portable as a large cabin bag. A single staff member can load, unload, and position it without assistance.

End-of-Shift Recharging

At the end of each evening shift, the unit is taken back to a staff room or storage area and plugged into any standard 15-amp wall socket. It recharges fully in 2–3 hours under normal mode, or under 1 hour using the fast-charge mode available via the SmartBatt app — ready for the next day's service with no fuel procurement, no vendor call, and no mechanical preparation.

Zero Infrastructure Change

The transition from diesel to battery required no modification to the food truck's existing wiring or equipment layout.

Cost Savings

50%

Switching to SmartBatt reduced Blossom's monthly energy costs by 50% compared to the previous diesel generator and lead-acid UPS combination. The saving comes primarily from eliminating daily diesel fuel expenditure and removing the maintenance cost associated with the generator — with no ongoing vendor dependency or refuelling logistics.

Impact Delivered

Commercial Impact

Monthly energy costs fell by 50%, driven by the complete elimination of diesel fuel spend and generator maintenance costs. There are no fuel vendors to coordinate, no refuelling schedules to manage, and no mechanical servicing costs.

Environmental Impact

  • Monthly diesel avoided: ~660 litres
  • Monthly CO₂ not emitted: ~1,769 kg (~1.77 tonnes)
  • Over two months of deployment: approximately 1,320 litres of diesel avoided and ~3,540 kg of CO₂ not released at street level
  • Zero particulate matter, NOx, or exhaust odour at the service point

Operational Impact

  • Noise eliminated: Staff and customers now operate in a quiet environment
  • Customer experience: Diesel exhaust smell, previously a persistent irritant drifting into the service area, is gone entirely
  • Staff burden eliminated: The Ezee's 45 kg wheeled form factor is managed by one person — no heavy UPS to carry daily
  • Recharging: Standard wall socket, no special infrastructure. Fast-charge via app when shorter turnaround is needed
  • Reliability: Zero breakdowns in two months of daily operation. No unplanned service disruptions attributable to power
